# On-premises connectors

Connect accounting software running on a customer's own machine to Apideck. Start with the connector's setup guide: the installed product, connection method, and operating requirements determine how you onboard each customer.

## QuickBooks Desktop

QuickBooks Desktop connects through the QuickBooks Web Connector on Windows. Apideck hosts the server side of that connection. Use these guides in order:

| Step | Guide | Who needs it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Enable the connector | [Configuration](/apis/accounting/quickbooks-desktop/configuration) | Your integration team |
| Prepare a test environment | [Test instance](/connectors/quickbooks-desktop/docs/application_owner%2Btest_instance) | Your developers |
| Connect a company file | [Connection setup](/apis/accounting/quickbooks-desktop/connection) | The customer's QuickBooks administrator |
| Check available operations | [Supported resources](/apis/accounting/quickbooks-desktop/resources) | Your integration team |
| Review limitations | [Gotchas](/apis/accounting/quickbooks-desktop/gotchas) | Your integration and support teams |

There is no cloud sandbox for this connector. Plan for a Windows installation when testing. See the [configuration guide](/apis/accounting/quickbooks-desktop/configuration) for current prerequisites and the connection lifecycle.

### Watch the setup walkthrough

Follow the two-part walkthrough from the [QuickBooks Desktop connection guide](/apis/accounting/quickbooks-desktop/connection), covering enabling the connector and connecting a company file.

Review [Zero Data Retention](/guides/security-and-data-handling#zero-data-retention-and-its-boundaries) before enabling an on-premises connector. The architecture page documents the QuickBooks Desktop temporary-storage exception; do not assume cloud pass-through behavior applies to this connection.

## Plan the customer handoff

Agree who owns the installed software and who will complete connection setup. For an enterprise customer, that may be a finance administrator working with IT rather than the person using your application.

You can use [Vault Links](/guides/vault#vault-links) to hand off the authorization step. A hosted link does not replace any installation or configuration required on the customer's machine. Keep the same consumer ID throughout onboarding and subsequent API calls.

Before enabling a production workflow, confirm:

- **Product and edition:** record the exact installed product and version. QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop have separate connectors.
- **Local setup:** identify who installs and maintains the connector software.
- **Availability:** document what happens when the customer's machine is unavailable. For QuickBooks Desktop, the Web Connector and its Windows machine must remain available for syncing.
- **Data freshness:** account for the connector's sync behavior when showing balances or confirming that a write appeared downstream.
- **Operations:** check the connector's resource coverage and gotchas for the records your workflow needs.

## Verify the integration

After the administrator completes setup, verify the connection in Vault and make a read request in the [API Explorer](/apis/accounting/api-explorer). Select the matching connector and the same consumer used during onboarding.

Use the [Explorer guide](/guides/api-explorer) to inspect the response and the [logs](/logs) to investigate failures. Test your application's handling of an unavailable connection before introducing writes.

## Other installed ERP systems

A vendor offering an on-premises edition does not establish that its Apideck connector supports that edition. Check the specific [connector documentation](/connectors) and [API coverage](/apis/coverage). If the deployment type is not documented, [contact our team](https://www.apideck.com/contact) with the product, version, hosting model, and resources you need.

This page currently documents QuickBooks Desktop's verified setup; it is not a complete catalog of every vendor's deployment options.
