How to connect to Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT
Connecting Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT takes two short steps. First, an admin in your organisation connects the integration's application to your Blackbaud environment in Blackbaud Marketplace. Then you authorise the connection in Vault by signing in with your Blackbaud ID. There is nothing to enter in Vault: no API key, no client ID or secret and no other settings.
Prerequisites
- A Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT environment. The connection reads constituent and gift records from it.
- An organisation admin, or a user with Marketplace permissions, for the first step. Blackbaud only lets these users connect an application to your environment. If that is not you, forward the first step to them.
- The Application ID of the integration. The provider of your integration gives you this identifier. It is not a secret, and it is the only thing you need from them.
- A Blackbaud ID for the person who authorises in Vault. This can be the admin or any other user of the environment.
Steps
1. Connect the application in Blackbaud Marketplace (admin)
- Sign in to Blackbaud and open Blackbaud Marketplace.
- Go to Manage and select Connect app.
- Paste the Application ID you received from the provider of your integration and click Connect.
If the integration has a listing in the Blackbaud Marketplace, the admin can select Connect on that listing instead of pasting the Application ID. Blackbaud describes this step in Create an application.
You only do this once per environment. After that, any user in your organisation can authorise the connection.
2. Authorise the connection in Vault
- Open the Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT connection in Vault and click Authorize. Vault takes you to Blackbaud.
- Sign in with your Blackbaud ID if you are not already signed in.
- Review the access the application requests and approve it.
- Blackbaud returns you to Vault, and the connection shows as authorised.
Notes
- Your permissions shape what the integration sees. Access is limited to the security permissions of the user who authorises in Vault. If that user cannot see certain constituents or gifts in Raiser's Edge NXT, the integration cannot see them either. Authorise with a user who has access to the records the integration needs.
- Read-only. The connection reads constituents (individuals and organisations) and gift records; it does not change data in your environment.
- Turning it off. Your admin can deactivate the application at any time from Manage in Blackbaud Marketplace. The connection stops working until the application is connected again.
Troubleshooting
I cannot authorise, or Blackbaud says the application must be approved by an administrator. The application has not been connected to your environment yet, or it was deactivated. Ask your organisation admin to complete step 1 with the Application ID, then authorise again in Vault.
My admin cannot find a place to paste the Application ID. Blackbaud only lets an organisation admin or a user with Marketplace permissions connect an application. Check that the person doing step 1 has one of those roles.
The connection works but some records are missing. The data follows the permissions of the user who authorised. Authorise again in Vault with a user who has access to those records.
The connection worked before and has stopped. Check with your admin that the application is still connected under Manage in Blackbaud Marketplace, then authorise again in Vault. If that does not help, contact the provider of your integration.
